CHURUMURI POLL: Can Chiranjeevi do an NTR?

CHURUMURI POLL: Can Chiranjeevi do an NTR?

The political arangetram at 2.38 pm on Sunday, August 17, by Konidela Siva Sankara Vara Prasad alias Chiranjeevi, in Hyderabad, marks the entry of another film star in the “cesspool of Indian politics”. Quoting B.R. Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa and A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the 53-year-old “megastar”, son of a police constable, pledged to dedicate the rest of his life to Dalits, the downtrodden and the backward classes. And to turn Andhra Pradesh into a happy and smiling State.

Chiranjeevi’s political ambitions, as Andhra Pradesh enters an election year, alters the poll paradigm in much the same manner as the entry of another thespian 25 years ago: Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao. NTR’s Telugu Desam Party went on to sweep the AP polls ten months later, but does Chiranjeevi, a Kapu, have the same appeal as NTR, a Kamma? Does Chiranjeevi have the draw to romp home or will he only end up eating into the votes of the TDP and the Congress?

Above all, does a film star really have the solutions to the ills of a large State? Or are gullible voters only living their celluloid fantasies, expecting their on-screen demigods to sweep the stables clean?

  1. Andy Says:

Of all the film starts and worthy individuals available in AP right now, Chiranjeevi has the best chance to succeed in AP Politics..his credibility will help him in the race.

There is another potential winner in Dr Jayaprakash Narayan of Lok Parivartan, an NGO. the combo of Chiranjeevi and Dr Jayaprakash Narayan looks unbeatable ( on paper atleast).

But Indian politics has been the playing / preying ground for thugs, thieves, goondas, mafia and all sorts of undesirable elements. Hope people like Chiranjeevi who has good intentions + humoungous following in the state will be able to break this strangle hold.

Whoever said there is no dull moment in Indian politics..

  2. Ram Says:

First, why do you mention the castes of Chiranjeevi and NTR. Is caste that important to be discussed?

Second, any person can have solutions to the ills of a large state. What if that person happens to be a filmstar? Should he stay back and not get into the politics?

  3. Sandesh Says:

Of course caste should not be mentioned… However, having telugus for quite a long time, I can say very confidently that caste is of utmost importance for them… their movies run on the basis of caste and caste based politics is the only way if you want power…

  4. jaya prakash narayan Says:

but….chiru has no strong back ground that what we observed!bcoz the members joining in that party are only those who are cunning in nature……

and other thing no matter all of BC people love GREATE LEGEND NTR,and they can’t leave TDP,

it have to remember that only some leaders leaving parties but not supporting voters!!!

  5. Ram Says:

    @Sandesh,

Its just a misconception that Caste is of utmost importance for Telugus. There is no such thing like Movies running on the basis of castes. You can see caste war in only two districts of AP not the whole of AP. And even that is between only two castes Kamma and Kapu started in 1989.

  6. Sekhar Says:

Chiranjeevi said that Bapuji’s Grama Swarajyam in his political entry speech.

If he seriously think and act in that direction to make all the villages self suffcient and provide feccilities at the village level…take this as his election plank…why not he can do NTR.. no doubt about it.

  7. kishore Says:

one thing i will tell , chiru will do better than the congress and TDP.

  8. Yadhu Says:

When NTR launched Telugu desam party there was a huge vacuum in the AP state politics, with Congress changing the Chief ministers for every month and Janata Dal not able to provide a good alternate. People at that were also fed up with the policies of the Congress Govt. and miffed at the treatment of AP Congress leaders by the Congress central command. All this along with some reasons like poverty, corruption and Telugu sentiment have together worked in the favour of NTR. And also NTR had a sincere zeal raise the morale of the people of AP, he formed the TDP out of anger and emotion, the idea to form the TDP party was sincere as was the will. But if you look at present the conditions are not the same, there’s development although there is frustration, there is no political vaccum vacuum as such. The only thing that can work in the favour of Chiranjeevi’s party is the raise of corruption in the state. Other than that there is not much in chiru’s party. More over the entry of Chiru into politics and the announcement of party more over looks like a launch of a New Telugu movie, with unnecessary suspense and unwanted publicity. The press conference on 17th Aug itself looks more like a stage managed, as the jurno’s put the same mundane questions. Even the publicity of having mentally challenged children around Chiru on Independence day flag hoisting is a cheap publicity and a very bad PR. Apart from quoting (always) the quotes of famous personalities he didn’t come up with his own quote at press conference.

With all these it’s very Hard for Chiru to do what NTR has done.

More than Chiru’s party we should watch the performance and results of Loksatta.

  9. Doosra Says:

Political instability will be the obvious result. For every MGR and NTR in politics, there has been an unsuccessful Sivaji Ganeshan (TN)and Krishna (AP). Most likely, Chiru will win some seats thanks to his caste following and become a power broker. AP will enter the coalition era (after decades of a stable two-party polity) like Karnataka and Maharashtra. There goes another progressive state. What a disaster in the making!

  10. Manohara Sriraja Says:

Chiru will make the wonders in A.P. Political History. He will sweeps out the all the parties in forth coming elections. He will make very much more than the other parties which they have ruled the A.P. and he the man of mass people. The middle class and poor people are expecting more from him. He will make the social, political and financial justice to the S.C’s,S.T’s,B.C’s and Minorities much more than the parties ruled ever.He is going to create new history. He will breake the record of the N.T.R.

  11. kapuKammaCastePolitics Says:

Chiranjeevi will need atleast considerable votes of Kamma caste and Reddy caste to make a sweep. He cannot win based on Kapu caste and his fans alone. Thanks to our so called ‘ Caste Politics’. Andhra Pradesh is similar to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in this regard.

Also Andhra Pradesh will enter into coalition politics for the first time in 2009 due to Chiranjeevi foray in politics. What a disaster. God save Andhra Pradesh and India.

  12. Srikanth Says:

It is very wrong to compare NTR and “Vara Prasad”

NTR had the sincerity and conviction to start with. “Vara Prasad” doesnt seem to have an opinion of his own.

NTR never had members of his family influence decisions of party of Govt. except in case of Naidu, who was already an experienced politician, and a minister. In case of Chiranjeevi, his brothers and BIL are already playing significant role, and will continue to do so. It looks more like a family run movie business than serious politics.

There is no political vacuum like in case of NTR’s time.

But, Chiranjeevi might get some significance because of content hungry 24×7 news channels, who want to report about anything and everything.

Even if he gathers few seats, in present day political situation where coalition is such an important theory, he will play a significant role. And split verdict will be more of a reality in AP in coming election because of overcrowded political space, with Congress, TDP, BJP, TRS, Chiranjeevi’s party etc. (Not sure if Lok Satta will make any impact here)

  13. tarlesubba Says:

i think it is good. especially when seen from KA’s experience where intra party power struggles have usually left the state short changed. in 61 years we have had 25 chief ministerial candidacies shared by 20 different characters with an average tenure of 2 years and 5 months per candidacy. even right now, counting numbers top of my head, there about 7+1 CMs in waiting.

the good thing about personality based parties is that people vote for personalities. everybody within the party is clear about it. and the public clearly knows where the buck stops. Thiruka and DD and Maya have no internal challengers. So if they develop a taste for governance even if due to hubris they can actually effect change without having to bother about internal politics.

At the same time they can also effect maximum damage. But that is what elections are for - to take care that the reign of pillaging momins is not more than 5 years.

the bad thing is that, typically, such parties are not sustainable. who after Thiruka, DD and Maaya? but given the miracles of modern medicine and ancient yoga, a tenure of 30-40 years is both a good run for the stars and good churning for the masses. after 30 years if chiranjeevi gets kicked out and say a gopichand breaks in, is it really such a bad thing?

if somebody is holding their breath in anticipation of the statesmen and gentleman politician, save your selves the agony and asphyxiation and take a deep breath and move on.

In the US, politicians spend as much as KA’s annual budget on ads and campaigns to build a personality saleable for candidacy. Why not capitalize on an image based on hundred movies that entertained?

  14. Justfine Says:

Unfortunately all the fans of Chiranjeevi are situated either in US or in Australia.

  15. Kadana Kuthuhala Says:

    Another goddamn socialist!!

  16. andhrawala Says:

Every body from chota to bada politician always talk about upliftment of downtrodden and farmers. Yes its a good idea but uplfitment of farmers and downtrodden is a social reform. How can ” Vara Prasad” achieve this with political reform.

Will chiru and his family share is wealth inorder to reduce the equality between rich and poor.

There is a lot of difference between NTR and chiru. Chiru is a mass actor. NTR is a class actor.

What is the ideology of chirus party. If he was intersted to do service to people especially poor why didnt he come into politics earlier. Why this auspicious occasion?

Is entry into politics is a zenith in somebodys career? Looks like this has become a very prominent in Indian politics these days?

Yes Chiru might be a good person, what about his company, his brother and brother in law? Are they not waiting to take there share if he become chief minster.

Fans hungama? Why dont the fans of chiru spend some time in social activities rather than shouting and screaming in the streets. This will help our society.

Finally about the social activities of chiru like blood bank. Yes it would have helped people in need, was there any motto to start such things like tax benefits etc?

We want leaders who bring social reforms in a society but not political reforms. I am very sure that every body is eagerly waiting to take their share.

Service to people and poor can be done from any party or even without a party. why do you think leaders from other party are joining chirus party? I need not tell you the answer, its very clear, money money money.

friends nothing is going to happen overnight with a new party and new leader. Unless they stop corrupt leaders and criminals in Indian politics I am very sure that nothing is going to change.

    Andhrawala

  17. AK Says:

I asked chiru to come in politics ,

    yes its true,

he is kapu, and all kapu moddalu support him,

chiranjeevi is worst person and kapu modda

    ullipaya natha kapu oorine thagalestadu,

    Chiru antha kapu desanne thagaklestadu..

    save AP plz//

    kapu gaalu rechipotaru,

are reddys and naidus, kapu gaallani modda gudipinchandi

  18. AK Says:

kapu gadu ekkuva chestunnadu, are veedu worst gadu,

    already tollywood modda gudisindi,

ippudu politics anta save AP plz,

are chiru neeku narco test cheyiste telustundi nuvvu enta vedavavo,

The general impression of public on Chiranjeevi is a mixed concoction. The people those are against Chiranjeevi generally point out the following things in majority. Chiru should know where he is lacking in maintaining his image in public.

    1) Chiru expects big budget if the film is made by a producer other than his family member. .

    2) All his friends (Sudhakar, Prasad Babu etc.,) are not with him, he kept them away. He is too much into his family, but not friends, he never makes friendship with people less fortunate than him.

    3) He has ‘bandhu preethi’ a lot. He maybe good, but his family may not.

    4) He never really entertained any of his earlier-days producers, writers or directors, like Mr Rajnikanth did. He didn’t even bless Mr Kodandarami Reddy’s son during his movie launch.

    5) His blood bank collects money from people for Blood if you don’t have white card. When Chiru collects Blood for free and sell it for profit. That is not charity.

    6) He is not great decision maker; look at his first daughter wedding fiasco with Uday Kiran. He changed his wording in two days.

    7) He breaks into tears when pressure hits him and gets emotional.

8* His second daughter issue, well, everyone knows. He failed as a father.

    9) His brother broke his wedding promises to a female; this can be highlighted and female voters may keep away from him.

    10) His son made an accident with his Honda CRV, they manipulated that case and now no one knows about it. This tells Chiru is manipulative and not straight forward type.

How far Chiru can manage to be good all the while with these impressions circulating in public?

  19. Ram Says:

    @Ak

Good Research…Can you please make a list of ‘things’ that can be seen in YSR and CBN.

  20. buz Says:

ya i think he can and guess what he has already has a son in law like cbn to take over

  21. kevin Says:

    @Ram

AK Cannot write the “list” for YSR and CBN here as wordpress will allow only 2500 characters ;-) lol..

I admit everyone will have good and bad sides.. But chiru is good by heart..

Why not give him a chance instead of giving Congress and TDP change again and again..

    I like @Andy idea..

Lok Satta and Chiru Party combined will give best political party..worth

    to be dying..

    My 2 cents..

  22. cm Says:

It is very auspicious talking about a party before it’s starting.Any way chiru may not be a good leader in all the scenes we had seen, like

Rajasekhar and jeevitha’s case–his fans done a misterious trouble to the couple even after chiru’s call not to do any thing. But ultimately the fans beaten rajasekhar. The one who is not possible to lead his fans–how can he lead the total andhra pradesh.

His family : first i wish to talk about his elder brother pavan kalyan..we all kn ow his disorder status.he is mental in some cases like recent indipendence day incident. He destroyed the lok satha party flag. What is that..is it good for one who is a celebrity and brother of politician of andhra.IT is not a stupidity for him..

last but not the least he has not great control over his family, how can he control the politics and andhra.

    Oh god save andhra ..

  23. madhu Says:

There is no reason to describe this incidence.I am sorry for andhra people who was going to suffer in future.

  24. Ntr and Chiru Says:

I used to have doubts on chiru how he will compete with dirty congress and TDP. Form today my thinking is changing how Congress will fight against Chiru. He is coming with very good answers. He is a very calculative and not taking fast decisions which will help him solve many issues. Now I am start thinking AP is on verge of getting new strong leader.

  25. Sreedhar Says:

If you are referring to the landslide victory of NTR in the ’80s, then I doubt if that can happen in the present era. But I have confidence that he is going to bring at least some change to the current state of politics. Enough of YSR and CBN, lets give him a chance and see.

  26. marmayogi Says:

Prajarajyam=Prajala rajyam ie peoples state ie concept of communist party

Rajyam is for prajas that is people

Bhojyam and bhogum is for chiru and his family

If one wants praja seva only there is no need for any party. Chiru should have followed the pathway of mother theresa, ambedkar, Gandhi, Poole etc without entering politics.

    Wat a joke

Oka tagore, oka Indra, Oka stalin only for celluloid screen. People enjoy in films and forget.

Look at other famous actors. Bacchhan is very happy after getting out of politics. Look Rajnikanth who as followers more than Chiru is away from Politics.

Chiru you will regret by joining politics. Indian politics is like penta ie shit. More you enter more dirty and smelly you become. Better to stay away from penta.

Reforms should start from each and every indvidual. Political party cannot change anything.

Jai chiranjeevi jai jai chiranjeevi–good if chiru had stuck to his cinema world.

  27. rajasekhar Says:

one thing i can say, chiru wil definately give good politics to us when compared to others. let us give one chance to him and see how things go.

  28. kishore Says:

Some questions i want to ask

1)I Like to ask all the people who has replied here how many have you voted since u got voter name registered ????????

2)How can any body compare NTR with Chiru, NTR is a Legend does any body in other states know that there is andhra pradesh in india before NTR. Becose of NTR v can now proudly say that v r from Andhra Pradesh.

3)And speaking of Chandrababu frankly speaking if he was not CM for 9years how many of u ppl could have got IT jobs with not less than 10k per month and going to other countries if he was not CM our AP would have been another BIHAR for sure

3)Bcos of Chandrababu in every country v have a status and pride as AP’s IT people

4)Frankly speaking abt Chandrababu, he was blamed for supporting IT industry in AP now being an IT people we are not going to support him??

5)Do u thing making somebody CM is a joke we are giving our Life our Families life’s and our economy in somebody’s hand for 5years and for that we cannot give a 1 chance some body who does not even know how many constituencies are the in AP

6)First all u people think what we are talking about we are talking about AP government for next 5years not some Movie we go and spend 100rs for supporting our hero. There are no hero’s om real life.

7)Cast is no matter in Politics its just a mask for attracting voters. How can someday vote in support of Cast, for example if u want to vote to YSR because he is reddy and u r reddy u must vote to some BC or other cast MLA first.

so first vote, and double think wht u r today then vote, dont vote some body as bcos he is ur dream hero and never compare PUAMI NAGU with NTR the LEGEND

Giving the Gift of Sight!

It's my pleasure to participate in Ammas.com. Thank you for all your answers and support. Here is some information about the Chiranjeevi Eye Bank:

Vision

To provide sight to visually impaired through collection and distribution of corneas from volunteer eye donations.

Mission

To educate people about the importance of eye donations.

To register and maintain a database of eye donors.

To recover corneas posthumously from registered donors, and

To distribute the corneas to the needy people.

The Chiranjeevi Eye Bank was started in the year 1998 to fulfill the service vision of its founder, the well known Telugu film Star Mr. Chiranjeevi. The first ever appeal for eye donation to the public through media by Chiranjeevi resulted in an overwhelmingly spectacular response of over fifty thousand people pledging their eyes for posthumous use to provide vision to the visually impaired.

Chiranjeevi Charitable Foundation through the intensive efforts of the Eye bank has collected 1221 pairs of eyes from the deceased donors who had pledged their eyes and provided vision to 2442 people (Till May, 2007) who were visually impaired.

The Eye Bank along with the Blood Bank is administered by the Chiranjeevi Charitable Foundation located at Road No.1, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.

Achievements

Achievements

While the state requires 5,00,000 units of blood per year, the awareness created by Chiranjeevi Blood Bank, pushed the availability to around 3,50,000 units which is a rare feat in itself. Today Chiranjeevi takes more pride in the knowledge that his Blood Bank saved someone's life than the fact that his film has gone for a Silver Jubilee.

CCT provides blood absolutely free of cost to the needy and underprivileged. Besides CCT also incurs the costs of blood screening which is about Rs.750/- per unit .In case of economically backward and lower income group people CCT absorbs these screening costs completely. Persons who are white card holders or belong to the family of white card holders and or availing treatment at Government Hospitals are eligible for claiming exemption of screening costs.

Chiranjeevi may take Long Break to Praja Ankita Yatra

Megastar and Praja Rajyam party president Chiranjeevi, who abruptly cut off his "Praja Ankita Yatra" from Visakhapatnam due to sore throat, initially hinted that he would resume his tour, this time from Telangana, after Diwali.

However, party sources said it is unlikely that Chiranjeevi would re-start his Yatra in the next three or four weeks. Though the reason is attributed to doctors' advice to take rest, sources say Chiranjeevi is perturbed over the reports of clashes between PRP leaders and his fans at various places.

He reportedly told his colleagues that he would first focus on constituting the party executives at all levels, before going into public, because there was no point in being the president of the party, which has no organisation.

He is of the view that if there are organisations at all levels, then it would be easier to delegate duties to the party cadres during his tour. He also wants that sufficient representation be given to his fans associations leaders in the committees, so that there would be no disgruntlement.

He wants to talk to all the fans associations before taking up the task.

Now that the party has been officially recognised by Election Commission, it would be appropriate to systematise the organisation, so that the PRP could face the elections confidently, even if they are advanced, sources say.

Praja Rajyam to Expand Zonal Panels

To help district leaders have access to the State leadership, the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) has decided to appoint zonal committees.

Though the party has already formed four committees, it is planning to revamp them and make some more additions.

Last week the party state leaders have finalised the names of district monitoring teams and appointed the zonal committees.

Four to six members for each district have been appointed and altogether 124 leaders have been accommodated. The party appointed six members each for the zonal committees for north Andhra, coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana.

Senior leaders like Harirama Jogaiah, K Vidyadhara Rao, KSR Murthy, G Srinivas, T Sitaram, CV Sesha Reddy, Dr Vinay, Zakaria, Naragoni, Karuna, B Nagi Reddy, C Ramachandraih, Khaleel Basha, NV Prasad have been appointed to the zonal committees.

The party leadership wants to add some more members to these committees.

Zonal committees would act as link between the state leadership and the district leaders. Those district leaders who wants to join the party have to contact the zonal leaders. Zonal leaders will tour the districts and monitor activities like membership drive, establishment of party offices at the constituency level, etc. The district level leaders have to maintain contact with the zonal committees.

Meanwhile, party president Chiranjeevi today stayed back at home as he is suffering from sore throat and mild fever. Doctors advised him rest for three days. Party leaders took a strong objection to the remarks made by Agriculture Minister N Raghuvira Reddy that Chiranjeevi has to spell out the remuneration he took for the films and the income tax he paid.
Rubbishing the comments that all those who attended Chiranjeevi’s road show were influenced by his cine glamour, party leader Shoba Nagireddy said that people thronged for his road shows not just to see him but to express their anger over the Congress and Telugu Desam parties.

Praja Rajyam Refining itself with Survey Report

Huge Crowds Greet Chiranjeevi in Praja Ankita Yatra

Huge crowds greeted Praja Rajyam founder Chiranjeevi on the second day of his Praja Ankita Yatra of the district which passed through Gollapalli, Alajangi, Terlam, Uttaravalli, Merakamudidam, Garbham, Garividi, Gural and Nellimarla.

Addressing the huge crowds, the megastar said governments should be a protector of public property. Developmental programmes should not cause hardships to people but political leaders just did not care as they were busy lining their pockets. The PRP would fight against corruption and bring about a change in the system, he asserted.

"The PRP will surely address people’s problems. That will be the main agenda of the party. I chose this region to start my yatra as I wanted the blessings of the people here," he said amidst thunderous applause.

The huge crowds stopped their idol’s convoy at every crossroad between Bobbili and Nellimarla and urged him to speak, only to be obliged. Fans shouted slogans in support of Praja Rajyam while the most popular song of the party, Nenu Saitam Prapanchagniki Ahutavutanu, was repeatedly played at junctions.

N Lakshmi, a Chiranjeevi fan, and friends from Terlam said, "We came here to see Chiranjeevi." S Musalayya and others from Uttaravalli village in Merakamudidam mandal said that somebody should emerge on the scene to control corruption.

"We welcome Chiranjeevi, we will vote for him." M Sankaramma of Alajangi village in Bobbili mandal said her favourite star should be given a chance to cleanse politics and streamline administration.

The two-day tour of the district concluded this evening.

The four-day yatra of Visakhapatnam district will start from Tagarapuvalasa on Thursday.

Chiranjeevi Praja Ankita Yatra to Enter Vizag Today

The Praja Ankita Yatra of Praja Rajyam party leader and film star Chiranjeevi would be held in Visakhapatnam district from Tuesday to October 17, touching the rural and Agency Assembly segments.

Mr. Chiranjeevi would commence his road show in Visakhapatnam district at Tagarapuvalasa, about 25 km. from here, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. He would visit Araku, Paderu and Devarapalli by a helicopter on the last day before leaving for Hyderabad by an evening flight from here.

The Praja Rajyam chief would inaugurate the party’s rural unit office at Anakapalle on Oct. 16 morning and interact with party workers, supporters, blood donation camps organisers, fans and others from 8.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. at the office before starting the day’s Yatra.

Mr. Chiranjeevi’s tour received tremendous response from the people, particularly from the youth and women, in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts and it would not be different in Visakhapatnam, former Chodavaram MLA and party leader Ganta Srinivasa Rao said at a press conference he addressed along with other Praja Rajyam party leaders here on Monday.

This was the first phase of the tour and was planned to cover the rural and agency areas keeping in view the route convenience and a separate programme would be held for the four city Assembly segments later, he said. In the first phase itself, Gajuwaka and Pendurthy, falling under the city area have been included.

Some leaders from other parties might join the party during the Praja Ankita Yatra and more would join after the Visakhapatnam phase concluded on Oct. 17, he said. Former Vice-Chairman of Zilla Praja Parishad Laalam Bhaskara Rao of Telugu Desam is joining the party on Oct. 16.

Former MLA S.A. Rehaman said party’s membership drive was on and would resume on a large scale after Oct. 17. The tour programme was chalked out after consulting the film star fans and others, he added.

Former MLA P.G.V.R. Naidu, Chiranjeevi blood donation camps organiser Raghava Rao and others were also present at the press conference.

People cautioned

The leaders appealed to the fans, supporters and people in general not to climb weak hoardings, electric and telephone poles or onto the weak buildings in their enthusiasm to look at

Mr.Chiranjeevi and hear him, during the Yatra as it would be dangerous for them.

People were also advised not to travel in the direction opposite to the party leader’s road show as they might get caught among the huge crowds.

Chiru proved political pundits wrong through Praja Ankita Yatra

The overwhelming reception accorded to chiranjeevi in the bordering districts of Srikakulam and Vijayanagaram once again ignited the political scene in the state.

None, in particular both the major parties of Congress and TDP, have expected this kind of public attendance for the star turned politician and so far all political parties almost wrote off PRP as very marginal force, even after massive public meeting in temple town of Tirupathi.

At a crucial juncture when other oppositional groups playing political tactics, Chiru punctured the hopes of Naidu and some other parties proving that he is there, not just an another political party but as a power to reckon.

Now, not only dominant political parties, even the smaller ones that have been dictating dates and placing unreasonable conditions have started to re-think over their partner in the coming electoral battle.

The postponement of final decision by CPI (M) on Sunday in regard to have a tie up with TDP in the coming election is clear indication of that. Already one of the two left parties i.e. CPI has hinted, in public, its intention to sail with PRP against the wish of CPI (M) which almost has made up its mind to have tie up with Naidu for various reasons, the case is same with TRS.

Now all these leaders will re-work their electoral alliances.

Now Chiru camp should workout clear strategy to keep this momentum till the judgment day and convert this public attendance into votes.

Chiranjeevi Continues to draw Huge Crowds in Praja Ankita Yatra

Prajam Rajyam Party President Chiranjeevi’s Praja Ankita Yatra was a huge success in Srikakulam District. His tour of Vizianagaram also is drawing massive crowds.

Addressing the mammoth crowds, Chiranjeevi said that he has entered political arena only to serve people and not for pleasure or amassing wealth. He said he would reveal his programmes and policies only to people. He condemned political corruption and gave a clarion call to root out corruption from the society.

Chiranjeevi said his PRP will strive to mitigate the travails of the common-man.

People will give a verdict in my favour: Chiranjeevi

SRIKAKULAM: Expressing confidence that people would bless him with victory, Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi ruled out any truck with the proposed ‘grand alliance’ comprising the Telugu Desam, the Left parties and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS).

He was indeed favourably disposed towards the Left parties, but they were trying to enter into a truck with the TDP, a party with which he did not want to join hands.

Mr. Chiranjeevi made his first-ever observations about alliances in a free-wheeling interview aboard the ‘Praja Ankitha Ratham’ during his tour of Srikakulam district on Saturday even as his brother-in-law Allu Arvind was holding talks in New Delhi with CPI (M) leaders Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury.

Referring to the massive turnout at all his meetings during the past two days, the Praja Rajyam leader said this was a clear indicator that people wanted a change. Asked whether he expected the overt affection of his fans to translate into votes, he said, “I am hundred per cent confident about it.” In the same vein, he was asked if all this support would make him the Chief Minister.

He replied, “You need to ask the people about that. I am sure people will give their verdict clearly in our favour. I am not among those craving for power but a servant of the people. If you ask them, they will say yes. They desperately want a change.

”Telangana

Asked for his views on separate Telangana, Chiranjeevi said he had already stated in Tirupati in August that the Praja Rajyam would act as a facilitator if people wanted separation. “If people strongly desire a separate State, it will happen,” he asserted.

Chiranjeevi says 'Telangana call after considering people's wishes'

Actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi today said his Praja Rajyam Party will take a final decision on the separate Telangana demand in accordance with the wishes of people of the region."We honour their self-respect.

Our stand will be in accordance with the people's wishes. It will not be against their wishes.

Our party will be ahead of other parties on the issue," he told reporters here.He was asked about his party's stand on the Telangana demand in the backdrop of main Opposition TDP today announcing that it favours creation of a state covering the backward region of Andhra Pradesh.

Replying to a query on alliances, he said it was too early to talk about the matter.Asked for his party's stance on the Naxalite problem, he said it is not a law and order problem but a social issue.

"It is not a law and order problem. It is a social issue. I am also fighting for social justice," he said.Chiranjeevi is in the town for his maiden mass-contact programme.

He would cover the three districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam in eight or nine days, sources said.To a query, he said the objective of his tour is to acquire first hand knowledge of the people's problems and to create confidence among them that he is there to take care of them.

Chiranjeevi Praja Ankita Yatra Throbs to Yuva Beat

Yuva Shakthi! This was the mantra mega star Chiranjeevi chanted all through his Praja Ankita Yatra which began at Srikakulam and ended at Palasa this morning.

Striking a chord with the youth in the backward district, the actor stressed the need for them to play a bigger role in helping the people lead a life of dignity. ‘‘My dream is Yuva Andhra Pradesh," he kept saying at the whistlestop meetings which he addressed in the district en route to Palasa.

The convoy slowly steered its way through a sea of humanity, with Chiru telling the rapturous crowd why he had come into their midst and what he wanted to do and what he wanted them to do. "You were disillusioned with your rulers. Out of frustration, and in agony, you called me to come into your midst to fight on your behalf. I will do it, for sure," he said, insisting that his vision of Gram Swaraj would see villages throb with vitality.

People of all ages thronged the route well ahead of his arrival. Youths followed the convoy in trucks, cars, autorickshaws and every conceivable mode of transport.

The actor started off from the Inspection Bungalow in Srikakulam where he had been camping and reached the Santoshimata temple about 10:00 a.m. By the time of his arrival the junction was chock-a-block with people.

Women offered arathi. After Narasannapet, Chiranjeevi headed for Tekkali, where he was received by a huge crowd.

Chiranjeevi Promises 24x7 Free Power to Ryots

Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi on Friday promised 24-hour free power supply to farmers, at least in backward districts, if his party comes to power.

Addressing a large gathering near Narsannapet on National Highway 5 as part of his “Praja Ankitha Yatra,” he said it was the government’s responsibility to come to the rescue of people when they were in a crisis.

Farmers were already reeling under shortage of fertilizer and unremunerative prices for their produce, he said. Power shortage only added to their woes and if the government did not help them “We will work out a proposal to extend free power supply in backward districts.”

It was as if people from every house in this town had turned up on the streets to catch a glimpse of the star-turned-politician atop his ‘Praja Ankitha Ratham’ flanked by MLCs Gorle Haribabu and former Minister in the Telugu Desam government Tammineni Seetaram. The roads were so packed with people, especially women and youth, that the long-winding convoy comprising at least 100 vehicles could only inch forward.

In tune with his policy of not criticising leaders of other political parties and using harsh language against anyone, he did not name anybody but regretted that successive governments had neglected peoples’ welfare.

Individual and political interests were placed above that of the people. “If you patronise the Praja Rajyam, I promise that we will work out solutions to every problem you have been facing the past decades and do everything to improve your daily life,” he declared to a thunderous applause.

On the first day of his ‘Yatra’, he addressed half a dozen meetings in this town, attracting teeming crowds. He said he was all for development but not at the cost of welfare. “The common man cannot be hit below the belt,” he said, promising that he would do everything to remove imbalances in society.

I am far ahead of others on Telangana

Megastar and Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi appears to have well prepared to tackle the Telangana issue, even before Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu officially announced his decision to support the issue.

Chiru was pretty confident when he answered a question on Telangana at a press conference in Srikakulam.

"We don't take decisions depending on the situations. We have a total clarity on the Telangana issue.

In a way, we are a step ahead of others in taking up this demand. As I said on Tirupati dais, the PRP will fully respect the sentiments, aspirations and struggle for self-respect of Telangana people. Our decision will not be different from their aspirations," he said.

In fact, Chiru did not hesitate to speak out on the issue in Srikakulam, which is as backward as Telangana. He knows that media persons would push him on the back foot by raising the issue.

But he was well prepared to take the question and answered it well like a matured politician!

Chiranjeevi kick-starts his political tour in Andhra

Actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi Thursday launched his maiden and much-awaited state-wide “yatra” or tour from Srikakulam district in north coastal Andhra.

The Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) chief launched his the tour in the evening after offering prayers at Suryanarayana Swamy temple in Arasavelli near Itchapuram in Srikakulam district.

The superstar, who launched the party in August, reached Srikakulam in a helicopter from Hyderabad. En route, his chopper landed at Rajahmundry for refuelling.

Hundreds of his fans gathered outside the temple as he arrived for the prayers.

Addressing the crowd, he said his party’s aim was to bring a change in the state. “I want to see prosperity and happiness,” he said amid loud cheers.

Chiranjeevi began the tour in a special vehicle. He will cover a distance of 50 km every day and address road-side public meetings.

In the first phase, the actor will cover three north coastal Andhra districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam for nine days.

He will later visit the south coastal Andhra, Telangana and Rayalseema areas of the state.

Chiranjeevi has sounded the election bugle by launching the tour.

The simultaneous elections to state assembly and the Lok Sabha are likely to be held in February-March next year.

All the political parties, especially the ruling Congress and the main opposition Telugu Desam Party, are keenly watching the response to Chiranjeevi’s tour.

The political re-alignment in the state will also depend on the people’s response to the tour.

The two communist parties are likely to decide on aligning with the Telegu Desam Party or the PRP based on the response to Chiranjeevi’s “yatra”.

Even Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) may join hands with the PRP if it takes a stand in favour of separate statehood to Telangana.

Chiranjeevi chose north coastal Andhra to begin his tour as he enjoys huge fan following in the region as well as two other coastal districts of East and West Godavari.

The actor, who hails from West Godavari district, already made waves with his visits to Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar and Warangal districts in the Telangana region.

In his first public appearance after launching the party, he visited Sircilla in Karimnagar district and met families of weavers who committed suicide due to crisis in handloom sector.

He then visited Mahbubnagar district to express solidarity with farmers fighting against land acquisition for Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

PRP to spell out stand in 2 weeks

Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) president Chiranjeevi today said his party would spell out its stand on Telangana in two weeks’ time.

Speaking to reporters here today, he said the PRP had made its stand clear well before the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). ‘‘Our party is ready to do what people want and we made this point clear at the Tirupati public meeting itself,’’ he said.

He said his party would continue the policies of the Congress and the TDP and remove the lapses from them, adding that the PRP would welcome alliances for the next elections.

Chiranjeevi said his party would address the problems of the Uddanam area people who were suffering from kidney problems. ‘‘We will study the problem and do what we can,’’ he said. If voted to power, a sugar mill in the Srikakulam district would be opened, he said.

Chiranjeevi said the party had a clear idea on the issue of SC categorisation and condemned the attacks on Christians in Karnataka and Orissa.

Commenting on the criticism that his party was being filled with immigrants, he said whoever would come up with ideas to help people would be welcomed.

is for Chiranjeevi. C is for change.

Megastar Chiranjeevi has hit the roads with a clarion call for change.
The star-turned-politician, after offering prayers at the famous Sun shrine here in this village on Thursday, made an impassioned plea for bringing about a change in the society on the eve of his much-awaited Praja Ankita Yatra.

‘‘C is for Chiranjeevi. C is for change,’’ he quipped as the crowd that lined up to see him cheered him lustily.

The actor dwelt mostly on the day-today problems that people faced and how successive governments had belied their hopes after garnering their votes.

‘‘The government is supposed to be a trustee of public property. They cannot plunder it,’’ he stressed. He arrived in Srikakulam by a special helicopter at about 4 p.m. and drove straight to the temple. People, mostly youths, came out to greet him and rent the air with slogans in his support.

After praying at the temple, Chiranjeevi came out to address the people, who were everywhere –– on the road, trees and buildings. Though he hit out at the rulers, he refrained from naming anyone in particular. He did not raise any specific issues either. The thrust of his speech was on social justice, minimum facilities needed for a decent living and so on.

Elaborating on what change meant, the actor said even creation of minimum facilities would be a change for the better. ‘‘For instance, a bus to your village, proper treatment at a police station when one goes to lodge a complaint and availability of essential commodities at reasonable prices. What you all want are these small changes, but there is none to bother about them,’’ he said.

‘‘After ascending to power, politicians are turning into self-serving individuals,’’ he said adding that they were not only growing at the expense of the poor but are also helping their kith and kin to grow.

‘‘The State is your property. This belongs to you. It does not belong to the government,’’ he pointed out. Calling upon the youth to be the driving force behind social reform, he said, ‘‘time has come for you to act.’’

Praja Rajyam Promises True Governance

In what was a blistering attack on all political leaders across all parties, Pawan Kalyan, film actor and brother of Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi, said they were not political leaders interested in the welfare of people and progress of society per se, at all.

He was speaking after hoisting of the Praja Rajyam flag at Warasiguda in Musheerabad Assembly constituency in the city on Tuesday. He hoisted party flags, covering 16 constituencies from Rahmat Nagar in Jubilee Hills to Skyline Theatre in Himayatnagar constituency in a day-long series of programmes.

Mr. Kalyan regretted that 61 years after Independence, issues concerning the common man remained much the same and promised that when Praja Rajyam was voted to power under the leadership of Mr. Chiranjeevi, people would see the change. Praja Rajyam would show what true governance was and how it could be done.

Praja Paryam Takes up Teacher's Issue

The Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) on Tuesday demanded solution to the problems of the teachers’ selection in the 1998 District Selection Committee (DSC) examination.

Party spokesperson Mithra told media at the party office that the condition of the teachers was miserable. He said he was unable to understand why the government was not using their services while there were lot of vacancies in the Education Department.

It was not fair to run the schools with teachers hired on contract (vidya volunteers), he said.
Mitra informed the media that Chiranjeevi’s tour in Vizianagaram would take place on Oct 12 and 13. Chiranjeevi would tour Vizianagaram, Bobbili, Chipurupally and Nellimarla. Mitra said the PRP president would talk about the local problems and also tell how he was going to solve them.

In another press conference, Chiranjeevi’s brother Pawan Kalyan said he had received overwhelming response from people when he toured Hyderabad to hoist party flags.

Pawan said people came out with their problems demanding immediate solutions.‘‘People are waiting for a good leadership. They are now seeing it in Chiranjeevi. Many people who are not concerned with politics are also coming out,’’ he said.

Praja Rajyam workshops on Backward Class welfare

The Praja Rajyam will launch a series of workshops to be attended by leaders of the Backward Classes from across the State to find solutions to problems faced by the weaker sections and incorporate them into the party’s manifesto.

At a press conference here on Monday, BC leader VGR Naragoni said the first workshop, on Tuesday, will have the participation of leaders from the north coastal districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam, considering that the party president Chiranjeevi was launching his roadshow from Srikakulam.

Between October 7 and 25, the workshops aim to cover all the 23 districts, he said. The aim was to discuss problems plaguing the BCs threadbare, come up with solutions and present a report to the party president so that they could be included in the PR manifesto, he said.

District-specific issues

R. Jhansi, the daughter of late Gouthu Latchanna, said apart from a State-wide perspective, the focus would also be on district-specific issues. That is the reason why nearly 100 participants were invited for the workshops, from each district, she said.

The Praja Rajyam was serious about ensuring progress of the BackCs, who constituted 52 per cent of the population, said Margani Nageswara Rao, another BC leader.

Pawan Kalyan scheduled to hoist the party flag

Chiru Yatra may get C P M support

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) leadership in the state will decide whether to join hands with the Telugu Desam or the Praja Rajyam after gauging the public reaction to Chiranjeevi’s yatra.

Though the CPI(M) has agreed to form an electoral pact with the Telangana Rastra Samiti, it has adopted a wait and watch policy as far as the TD and the Praja Rajyam are concerned. This was evident from the deliberations of the CPI(M) state committee which met on Monday in Hyderabad. The committee reportedly resolved to maintain strategic silence on the pre-poll alliance with the TD for the time being.

A leader who participated in the meeting said that the CPI(M) would be keenly monitoring Chiranjeevi’s yatra to find out how much clout he wielded among the public in the state. "We are also waiting for Chiranjeevi’s party to reveal its stand on key issues such as the Indo-US nuclear deal, the economic reforms, World Bank policies and the attitude towards the BJP," said the leader.

"We were informed by the Praja Rajyam leaders that all this would be spelt out during Chiranjeevi’s yatra. So we decide to wait." Meanwhile, the CPI(M) politburo member, Mr Sitaram Yechury, said that the party had not taken any decision on whether to align with the TD or with the Praja Rajyam.

"We feel that alliances among the Opposition parties in the state should be forged on the basis of the alliances at national level," he added. When asked the new friendship between the TRS and the CPI(M), Mr Yechury said, "We are moving with the aim to dislodge the Congress government as well as to keep the communal BJP away from power. For this, we are bringing anti-Congress and anti-BJP forces to one platform.

" The CPI(M) leader said that the party’s central committee would take a clear stance on pre-poll alliances during its meetings to be held on October 13 and 14 in Kolkata.

Praja Rajyam Chief busy with Homework on Issues

Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi has asked fans and those wishing to meet him, prior to joining the party, not to come to the Jubilee Hills office till October 18.

The break from attending office daily was necessitated because he needed to prepare himself for the nine-day road show from October 9.

He needs to do homework and acquaint himself with issues plaguing people, with special emphasis on problems facing tribals, who constitute 5.96 p.c. of the population in Srikakulam, 9.55 p.c. in Vizianagaram and 14.55 p.c. in Visakhapatnam. Since Sunday, Chiranjeevi’s days include extensive interaction with party experts who are closely following developments on various issues with specific focus on the three districts.

A member of the party’s think-tank said some of the issues on which the Praja Rajyam president was reading up extensively related to the gross violation of the provisions of the Coastal Regulation Zone.

Praja Rajyam to Enrol 37,000 Members in each Segment

The Praja Rajyam wants to enroll at least 37,000 members into the party in each Assembly constituency in the State to ensure that the membership will reach the one-crore mark.
The membership drive is going on in all the constituencies.

Chiranjeevi’s fans, Praja Seva Samiti members, ticket aspirants, newly joined leaders are participating in the drive.

The party has opened offices in all district headquarters and appointed office incharges to assist those who are participating in the enrollment drive.

However, some leaders are complaining about shortage of application forms. "In our constituency we received only 5,000 forms which were distributed within hours," said a leader from Guntur district.

The district coordinators, who were appointed to supervise the Vurura Praja Rajyam programme, submitted their reports to the party office today, listing the number of villages where the programme took place and other details.

The party is going to utilise the services of Varadhi members who had earlier worked for voter enrollment.

Senior leader Ch Harirama Jogaiah said at a press conference here today that the Varadhi members would visit every house, explaining the party’s policies and urging the people to join the Praja Rajyam. "They would collect Rs 5 from each member. We kept the membership fee low to ensure that it should be within the reach of every one," he explained.

Jogaiah took objection to a report published in a vernacular daily in which party was described as a ‘money collecting agency’. It was not fair to resort to mudsliding on a party which was trying to cleanse the politics, he said and sought the cooperation of the media in the party’s endeavour.

Chiru to launch State tour from Srikakulam

Praja Rajyam Party chief Chiranjeevi will launch his yatra from Srikakulam on October 9 instead of Itchapuram.

According to sources, the change has became inevitable because the actor might not have enough time to reach Itchapuram.

According to the earlier plan Chiranjeevi has to perform pooja at Arasavelli near Srikakulam and has to reach Ichapuram to launch the programme.

As Ichapuram is 100 k.m. away from Srikakulam, it would take at least three hours for him to reach there.

Even if Chiranjeevi reaches Srikakulam in the morning and completes pooja by afternoon, he can’t reach Ichapuram before evening, sources clarified.

The party core committee today discussed the problem and came to the conclusion that it would be better if Chiranjeevi starts the tour from Srikakulam itself.

According to the revised schedule, Chiranjeevi would reach Srikakulam on the morning of Oct 9, and would perform pooja at Arasavelli and launch his tour from Srikakulam town.

The tour would pass through Srikurmam, Narasannapeta, Tekkali, Kasibugga, Sompeta, Kanchili and would reach Ichapuram on Oct 11.

Later he would enter Vizianagaram district at Chipurupally.

The core committee meeting could noto finalise the route of the tour in Vizianagaram district because of Sirimanu Utsavam ( the village goddess festival) which would take place on Oct 13.

Lakhs would join the Utsavam and it would be difficult for the movement of the convoy.

Praja Rajyam will give Full Powers to Panchayat Raj

Praja Rajyam Party founder president Chiranjeevi said on Thursday that his party after coming to power would delegate more powers to the gram panchayats and other local bodies. He said that the local bodies were yet to get powers under 29 subjects as envisaged by the 73rd and 74th Constitutional amendments.

“It is necessary to transfer all the powers due to the local bodies in order to achieve the self-sustainability,” he said. Mr Chiranjeevi was interacting with the villagers at the Gangadevipally, where he was on a study tour to know about the development of the village through self-help initiatives, in Geesukonda mandal of the district.

He was “surprised” by the unprecedented development of the village, which has achieved total literacy, total enrollment, and self-sustainability in several areas, and called for the replication of the success in all other villages of the State. Reminiscing his film career, Mr Chiranjeevi said that he had also played an activist role in his Rudraveena movie, which also highlighted the village development.

He said every person in Gangadevipally lived the role in their real life. The actor was awestruck when village sarpanch Kusam Raja Mouly said they would impose Rs 500 fine on those who fail to water their plants and those who defy village committees.

Few options before Praja Rajyam Party

If an assessment made by the senior officials in the Government is to be believed, Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) may not have anything to ‘offer’ to address the Maoist problem in the State.

The officials, who have pondered in depth, as to what stand the PRP could take on the burning Naxal issue, have informed the Government that the PRP is left with no ‘choice.’ The PRP too has so far not come out with its stand on the issue.

Top government sources told Express that Chiranjeevi had only one option — that of inviting the Maoists to the discussion table — which he has already lost to Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

After the Congress came to power, Reddy had invited Maoist leaders for talks which ultimately failed.

During the last few years, the documents seized from the Maoists stated that going to talks with the government was the ‘‘biggest strategic error’’ they had made and would never repeat the ‘mistake.’

‘‘The Chiranjeevi camp is already aware that even if it invites the Maoists for talks, the latter are simply going to turn down the proposal. The PRP camp has had several rounds of unending discussions over its stand on the Naxal issue and many in the party have opined that they are left with no choice,’’ sources disclosed, adding that the Government was aware of these developments.

They believe that the PRP is left with no option but to keep the issue hanging until elections.
Interestingly, in a document available with the police top brass, the Maoists spoke about the popularity of Chiranjeevi, indicating that they were looking forward for the PRP to come to power, while lashing out at the TDP and the Congress.

They probably are not aware of the fact that Chiranjeevi has nothing to offer to them and would remain quiet till the elections are over and then might take a stand.

Meanwhile, inputs trickling in from the Maoist-infested Andhra-Orissa-Border suggest that the extremists are planning a major operation in the State, especially Visakhapatnam, before the elections.

Praja Rajyam says no to Power Sharing

The Praja Rajyam on Friday dismissed the idea of power sharing with the Telugu Desam Party after the elections, a proposal mooted by CPI State secretary K. Narayana.

The CPI leader at a meeting in Sangareddy on Wednesday had said that after the elections, ‘sharing and rotation of power’ between the two main opposition parties like the TDP and the Praja Rajyam could be considered. Praja Rajyam spokesmen P. Mitra and Parakala Prabhakar categorically told presspersons that they had never entertained such thoughts.

“We have not even spent a minute thinking on those lines. Just to set the record straight, we do not feel such a proposal is in any way feasible,” Mr. Parakala said. On alliances, he reiterated that since its birth, Praja Rajyam had gone ahead with the confidence that it was the only alternative for progress, considering the policies of the TDP and the Congress and the way they were being implemented.

Too early

Mr. Parakala reiterated that it was not averse to any political alliances and added that at this point in time, the Praja Rajyam simply was not thinking on those lines. “It is too early and when the time comes, we shall think of it,” he said. “We are convinced that Gangadevipalli model of governance is the ultimate form of ‘praja rajyam’ (self-governance). That in essence is what Praja Rajyam is working for,” he stated.

Public hearing

Referring to Friday’s public hearing on bauxite mining at Chintapalli in Visakhapatnam district, Praja Rajyam spokesman P. Mitra criticised the government for deploying Greyhounds, the elite anti-naxalite police force and dissuading people from attending the hearing.

Ad hoc panels

Guntur Special Correspondent writes: Praja Rajyam is waiting for some key political personalities to join the party before it could finalise the constitution of district committees.

However, ad-hoc committees were likely to be in place either before Chiranjeevi’s north-Andhra tour begins on October 9 or during his tour. Hectic exercise was going on in the party’s central office to finalise the names of the members of the committees.

One of the key persons designing the core concepts of PR policies and helping Chiranjeevi grasp public perspective on welfare, urban development policies of State government is a former IAS officer hailing from Guntur Thota Chandrasekhar.

Mr. Chandrasekhar, who had headed four important corporations of Maharashtra in his 20 years of service, said, “The transparency in all activities and thinking differently had attracted me towards Chiranjeevi.”

The honesty in reaching out to people, promise to design policies that help share resources transparently with equality, would bring the new generation youth closer to the party, he felt.

Megastar Chiranjeevi, now a True Leader

After his trips to Siricilla and Polepalli, Chiranjeevi has transformed himself into a true politician and is now able to speak on any issue with confidence Just two short visits to rural areas, Praja Rajam presidentChiranjeevi is a completely transformed man. From a naïve beginner in politics, he now looks like a true politician.

The initial tentativeness in his statements has gone and he is confidently speaking on any issue - be it fertiliser crisis, weavers’ suicides, special economic zones or even Indo-US nuclear deal. “He appears to be a lot more confident in his approach now. Even with regard to sensitive issues like Telangana, he is dealing in a more matured fashion,” a political analyst observed.

What could be the reason for his dramatic transformation in Chiranjeevi’s personality? “Well, direct interaction with people to have first hand knowledge about their problems will always broaden one’s perspective. That’s what has happened to Chiranjeevi. Instead of merely depending on the information fed by his advisors, Chiranjeevi decided to go people directly.

His visit to Siricilla and interaction with weavers definitely helped him understand their problems. So is his visit to Polepally, where he directly heard from the people affected by Special Economic Zone about their plight. After his return from these two trips, Chiranjeevi has been behaving like a real politician,” the analyst said.

Even while dealing with the media, there has been a sea change in him in the last one month. In the first press conference on August 17, Chiranjeevi was very soft and polite with media persons, who were flooding him with a volley of questions. He looked very nervous and at times, confused at answering some critical questions.

But in the latest press conference after his return from the two trips, Chiranjeevi appeared very aggressive not only answering the questions, but also in dealing with reporters. From an innocent face, Chiranjeevi was displaying various moods in his face, depending on the questions he was receiving from the media. Secondly, he was found addressing reporters in singular number (though some reporters felt it was disrespect towards them).

He has also started identifying mediapersons regularly coming to press conferences and addressing them by their names.

And he answered all the questions with aplomb. The way he answered the question with regard to Chiranjeevi's opposition towards Indo-US nuclear deal shows how he transformed himself into a true politician.

“Former President A P J Abdul Kalam might have supported the nuclear deal in its overall perspective. But he is not a politician to go into the nitty-gritty of each and every issue of the deal and make a comment. I, as a politician, can do that and demand that the Centre give more clarity on the deal to the people,” he said.

Political observers feel that the more Chiranjeevi goes into people, the more matured he would become in politics. “I am sure, by the end of his State-wide tour, the megastar would emerge as mega politician,” an analyst said.

Chiru road show from Arasavilli

HYDERABAD:

Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi will kick off his road show after offering prayers at the Sri Suryanarayanaswamy (Sun) Temple in Arasavilli, four km away from Srikakulam on October 9.

However, on suggestions that prayers were in order on the day because it was Vijayadasami, the party president decided Arasavilli as the starting point.

Between October 9 and 12, Mr. Chiranjeevi’s convoy of vehicles carrying an estimated 600-strong people with him including party leaders, aides, presspersons and at least 350 security personnel will cover about 150 km in Srikakulam district before entering Vizianagaram.

Route plan

The party’s core committee spent almost the whole day chalking out a route plan that would enable the actor-turned-politician to cover as many places as possible and in the shortest possible time. But try as they might, logistics worked out that he would not be able to travel more than 40 km a day.

On Saturday evening, the party also finalised names of those who would be in the 12 committees being put together exclusively to handle the tour.

Among them are former MP Ch. Harirama Jogaiah as Tour Coordinator, Political Relations, former IPS officer C. Anjaneya Reddy, Tour Coordinator, Planning and Route Committee, assisted by gastro-enterologist Dr. P. Vinay Kumar, actor Pawan Kalyan, for security and gastro-enterologist Dr. P. Mitra as Convenor, Party Coordination Committee.

Local issues

PR spokesman Parakala Prabhakar and a reader at the London School of Economics, M. Pramod Reddy are in the Regional Issues Study Committee that will be responsible for providing inputs on local issues to the party president.

Chiru’s State tour from October 9

HYDERABAD: Praja Rajyam (PR) president Chiranjeevi will visit Gangadevipalli, the village that bagged the national award for local governance, in Geesukonda mandal of Warangal district on Thursday, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti.

In a marked departure from his earlier visits to Sircilla and Polepalli that were aimed at getting first-hand information about the weavers’ plight and the special economic zone-affected people, the trip to Gangadevipalli is meant to study the local government system put in place in the village.

The CPI (M)-dominated village shot into news for its committees headed by women at grassroots level that manage drinking water, drainage and sewerage and other amenities.

“We will have to learn lessons from the village for incorporating local government issues in our party agenda,” PR official spokesman P. Mitra said.

Accompanied by another spokesman Parakala Prabhakar, he announced at a press conference here on Wednesday that Mr. Chiranjeevi would commence the first leg of his proposed State-wide yatra on October 9 from Ichapuram in Srikakulam district on Vijayadasami, October 9.
The route for the first phase, expected to last about eight to nine days covering three north coastal districts, had been finalised and the coordinators were fine-tuning the programme to ensure that the film star would interact with the maximum number of people. Committees
Refuting reports that the party had appointed coordinators for districts, they said ad hoc committees had been constituted only to oversee programmes like inauguration of party offices and hoisting party flags on Gandhi Jayanti.

“The party will keep the structure of the panels in public domain once they are finalised. We have not yet finalised any committee,” Dr. Mitra said.

Meanwhile, Congress leader from Nellore C.V. Sesha Reddy formally announced his decision to join the PR.

Mr. Sesha Reddy had distanced himself from the Congress since the elections to Legislative Council when he was defeated by a rebel candidate.

“There is no place for genuine workers in the Congress. This has forced me to quit the party,” he said.

Chiru disagrees with APJ

Hyderabad, Sept. 28: The Praja Rajyam chief, Chiranjeevi has learnt the tricks of the trade. Chiranjeevi who praised the former president, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, for guiding him into politics, has differences with the latter on the Indo-US nuclear deal. Chiranjeevi had even said that he was dreaming for the people as Kalam had often advised.

During a media conference on Sunday, Chiranjeevi said: “Kalam might have made a macroscopic observation. He is a statesman and can’t be expected to speak against the deal like a politician. But I am a politician and I will speak for the people as there are some apprehensions over the deal,” he said. However, Chiranjeevi became mum when it was pointed out that Dr Kalam did have some reservations over the issue.

Chiru still studying issues

హైదరాబాద్-Srikakulam, Sept. 28: The Praja Rajyam president, Chiranjeevi, fumbled on question of how he will solve contentious issues troubling the state, and over on the "itinerary of his maiden political tour across the state". His standard reply over the last month on any important issue has been: "We are studying it." A press conference on Sunday showed that Chiranjeevi was still grappling with policies on key issues.

Even though he visited farmers who will be displaced by the Special Economic Zone at Polepally and weavers at Sircilla, the PR chief failed to answer related queries. Angered by a volley of questions by mediapersons, a visibly upset Chiranjeevi tried to end the meeting abruptly saying: "I am not an IAS officer to know about every issue."

Earlier, referring to suicide by Sircilla weavers, the PR chief questioned the apathy of the government towards them. "Please concentrate on the welfare of weavers and curb suicides rather than criticising my visits,’ Chiranjeevi said. When asked how the PR planned to alleviate sufferings of weavers, he said: "We are examining the issue and will announce our policy soon."
The PR president replied on the same lines on restoration of land to poor farmers whose lands were acquired by SEZs, industries and other projects in the state.

Interestingly, Chiranjeevi was not sure when his maiden state-wide tour will begin. Referring to reports in a section of media that he will start his yatra on October 2, Chiranjeevi said: "It is strange that I come to know about my tour itinerary through the media. We are still to plan it. I am not sure of the date, but I will start the yatra in Srikakulam much before Dasara."

The PR chief said that his party membership drive would start on Gandhi jayanti. A top leader of the party told this newspaper at Srikakulam on Sunday that the yatra will start at Itchapuram but the date has not been confirmed. Astrologers had said Itchapuram was auspicious.

Party leaders Chegondi Hariram Jogaiah, Dr Vinay, Banguluru Ravi, Allu Aravind and two advisors of Pavan Kalyan held a meeting in the roads and building guest house in the afternoon to discuss the venue of public meetings and the route map of the yatra.

Great change in Chiru's style and tone!

Did anybody watch the change in style, tone and tenor in megastar-turned-politician Chiranjeevi these days?

A close observation of his press conference on Sunday clearly indicated that there is a dramatic change in Chiranjeevi's style, eversince he returned from his two public visits. In the initial days of his launch of political party, Chiranjeevi used to be modest, shy and quiet in his talk and walk. He used to give innocent smiles and was hesitant to reply questions from the media.

But now, Chiranjeevi is lot more confidant. His facial expressions remind us of his heroic roles in the films, quickly changing from question to question. He is displaying irritation, anger and sarcasm in his replies and is also avoiding answers to questions that are unpalatable to him.

What is more, he is calling media persons by their names and using singular number (eka vachanam) – changing from "meeru" to "nuvvu."

Praja Rajyam to Begin Membership Drive

A month after launching the party, the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) leaders are finally getting down to business. Membership drive would begin and party offices would be opened in the districts in the next 10 days.

A decision to this effect was taken by the PRP leadership after two days of deliberations.
The party activities would be held in a festive manner coinciding with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2.

Disclosing this to reporters today, PRP president Chiranjeevi said that the week-long programmes - Vurura Praja Rajyam - (Praja Rajyam in all villages) will begin on October 2.
Party flags would be hoisted in every village and membership drive would also be taken up simultaneously.

However, the drive would be a continuous exercise, he said.

"I chose October 2 since it is the birthday of Mahathma Gandhi, who is an inspiration to me," Chiranjeevi said.

He said that a physically challenged youth Balakrishna Naidu would take the first membership and he himself be the second one, the hero said.

Party offices would also be opened at the district level initially and they would be opened at mandal and village levels at a later date, he said.

He urged party cadre to utilise the week-long celebrations to do public service. He called upon them to plant one crore saplings.

Regarding his tour programme, he said the first leg of his tour would be the three north coastal districts. He would start from Srikakulam district and cover Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts lasting six days.

Next leg of the tour would be in Telangana districts, he said.

Praja Rajyam chief Chiru Cheered through Out

Unlike his first visit to Sirisila, Chiranjeevi declared in advance that he will be visiting Porupalli @ MahaboobNagar. People were seen throughout the roads starting from Shamshabad . Chiranjeevi too cheered in return to people at Shadnagar Centre.

At Balanagar too huge mobs gathered to Cheer Chiru on his way to Mahaboob Nagar. Roads were blocked by party supporters and people . Chiranjeevi security had hard time in controlling mobs. From reliable sources its learnt that PavanKalyan have the blue print and controlled the fans. talking to mobs. Chiru even categorically said that the Opening stone laid for rehabilation package was not dried, and was laid on knowing about his visit.

Fans thronged Porupalli from Nagar Kurnool, Jedcherla into Porupalli to support Chiru. 4 kms of road is blocked near the spot where Chiru is supposed to conduct a meeting in support to SEZ. Few old people recalled the days when NTR first toured AP for TDP and said that Chiru's received better response.

Four hurt as Chiru, Balakrishna fans clash

NARSARAOPET:

Tense situation prevailed at Balayya Nagar here on Sunday afternoon after fans of Balakrishna and Chiranjeevi clashed resulting in injuries to four persons.

The incident took place when the Balakrishna Yuva Sena were taking out a rally. Trouble broke out when the rally reached Balayya Nagar where Praja Rajyam activists were staging a protest .

Chiru cornered on nuke deal

Only permanent solution will help improve the lives of weavers, says PR president
‘Praja Rajyam will come up with firm plans to rescue weavers’

HYDERABAD: The Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi found himself on a sticky wicket when he said that while he was inspired to enter politics by former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, a man who favoured the Indo-US nuclear deal, the party per se was “not exactly supportive of it.”
At a press conference here on Sunday, he was responding to a question on how his party had participated in an anti-nuclear deal rally even as he claimed to draw political inspiration from Dr. Kalam, a strong supporter of the accord.

“Dr. Kalam is a great scientist and only expressed his support from a macro perspective. He cannot talk about the smaller details like a politician because he is a statesman,” Mr Chiranjeevi said.

Blaming successive Governments for failing to come to the rescue of suffering weavers, he said only a permanent solution would help improve their lot and stop suicides. If a long-term solution were in place, the three weavers would not have ended their lives in Sircilla on September 27, he said and regretted that instead of devising ways of helping them, people’s representatives, specially those of the Congress, were throwing challenges at him.

The actor-politician said the PR was interacting with experts to put together a draft policy paper on how it would deal with the situation. They would come up with firm plans to rescue weavers in the short-term and also provide long-term solutions to improve their condition. Membership drive

He announced that on Gandhi Jayanti, his fans and party sympathisers in every town would hoist the party flag. It would also mark the start of the party’s membership drive. He said as promised earlier, Balakrishna Naidu, a physically challenged youth from Chikkadpally would be enrolled as the first member of the PRP, while he himself would be the second.

Chiru is no hero for former heroines

Hyderabad, Sept. 22: Many heroines who ran around trees and sang lovey-dovey duets with Chiranjeevi in reel life are spurning him in the political arena. On screen, their eyelashes fluttered with adoration on seeing the hero, but now many of them talk as if they can’t bear the sight of him. Roja, the president of Telugu Mahila, the women’s wing of the Telugu Desam, was Chiranjeevi’s heroine in many films. Some of the films, including Mutha Mestri, were blockbusters.

But now Roja has no good words for her former hero. In fact, she lashes out at him every day. "His role is nil when it comes to helping the needy in times of natural disasters in the state," says Roja. Vijayashanti, who has acted in the most number of films with Chiranjeevi and was considered to be the heroine who most suited him, is also a bitter critic of the star.

Both of them are in the opposite poles of the political spectrum and fans are sad to see them snipe at each other. But there are chances of the lucky pair getting together again. Vijayashanti is planning to merge her political outfit with the Telangana Rastra Samiti. And if the TRS joins hands with the Praja Rajyam, then fans will see Chiranjeevi and Vijayashanti together in a campaign van.

Popular heroine Nagma, who acted with Chiranjeevi in many films, is now in the Congress. Chances are that she will be campaigning against Chiranjeevi. Similarly, Jaya Sudha, who donned some good roles with Chiranjeevi is all set to join the Congress to spearhead the attack against her screen hero. However, the megastar may find some relief in another former heroine Jaya Prada, whose Samajwadi Party is trying for an alliance with Praja Rajyam.

But if the SP sticks on to its alliance with the Congress and Chiranveevi goes against the latter, then even Jayaprada may have to lash out at the actor. The only exception would be actress Suhasini who is likely to join Praja Rajyam.

Shobha criticises Naidu for using Roja to attack Chiru

Hyderabad, Sept. 22: The Praja Rajyam president, Chiranjeevi, has adopted the Telugu Desam president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu’s tactic of firing salvos at political rivals using selected leaders. And the first target of this attack by Chiranjeevi’s party was none other than the TD supremo himself. The former TD leader, Ms Shobha Nagi Reddy, who joined the Praja Rajyam on Monday lashed out at Mr Naidu for using film actor Roja to attack the megastar-turned-politician.

It may be recalled here that Roja, the TD Mahila Wing leader and former heroine of Chiranjeevi, criticised him saying that he had entered politics solely to gain power and was motivated by self-interest. She had said that Chiranjeevi had never helped anyone in the film industry while he was the superstar.

Retorting sharply to Roja’s comments on Chiranjeevi, Ms Shobha Nagi Reddy said that the TD chief was conducting a competition among his party functionaries on who would criticise rivals the best. "He is using Assembly tickets as bait and this is nothing but political bankruptcy," she added. This was the first time that a leader other than the party spokesperson had held a press conference at the PR headquarters. On the other hand, Chiranjeevi refused to react to the critical comments made by the Congress and the TD on his Siricilla tour by saying that he would not respond to personal attacks.

"As I was moved by the hardships of the weavers in Siricilla during my recent visit, I questioned the lackadaisical attitude of the government and local MLA towards the plight of the weavers," he said. He has also set up a committee under the chairmanship of Mr K.S.R. Murthy to study the problems of the weavers. The megastar said he had not yet decided when to launch his state-wide tour. "I was thinking of beginning my yatra in the first week of October," he said. "But, some of our party leaders are suggesting that I take it up after the Dasara festival."

Blood Donation Camp and Iftar Dinner in a Grand Style by Noor Bhai

Noor Mohd, a huge fan of Chiranjeevi (not only by size, by heart too) celebrates birthday celebrations of Mega Heroes in never before style, has conducted Powerstar Pawan Kalyan's Birthday in grand style.

Generally he celebrates Pawan Birthday as a special occasion, this time he has conducted a mega blood donation camp and also gave Iftaar dinner in a grand style. For starters Noor Bhai is not a rich person, infact he is very poor and his business is seasonal business.

But his fanism towards mega family is unquestionable and he spends lakhs of rupees of hard earned money. Last time Powerstar Pawan Kalyan attended the birthday celebrations that was conducted by Noor Mohd.

on 21st Sept 2008, more than 300 people had donated blood voluntarily and at the same time more than 3000 people attended the iftar dinner given by Noor at Zorastrian club at Secundrabad. Mega Heroes are very lucky to have fans like Noor Mohd with them.

BJP welcomes Chiru’s Sircilla visit

KARIMNAGAR: Sircilla

BJP State president Bandaru Dattatreya praised Praja Rajyam party founder Chiranjeevi’s visit to Sircilla town to study the plight of distressed weavers and listen to the woes of bereaved families of powerloom weavers, who resorted to suicides due to unemployment.
Talking to The Hindu over phone on Saturday night, Mr. Dattatreya suggested that
Mr.Chiranjeevi should come out openly and expose the misdeeds of the State Government on all fronts.

He demanded that the government waive about Rs. 350 crore loans taken by weavers of the State.

He said that the party is taking all steps to fill the present political vaccum in the State. On the Telangana statehood issue, he said that the Congress had once again betrayed the people of Telangana after being elected on Telangana sentiment.

He said AICC president Sonia Gandhi has no face to visit Telangana region as can be seen from the fact that she is visiting only Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions.

‘Defeat Congress’

Calling upon people to defeat the Congress party in the coming elections, he said that the party would definitely grant statehood to Telangana as it has a history of giving three new States during the NDA regime.

He alleged that the Congress government is causing more harm to Telangana region by siphoning off the river waters from the region to other parts of the State. He wanted the government to convert the JNTU in Kondagattu in Karimnagar district into a university, on par with Kakinada and Anantapur institutions.

‘Sankalp yatra’

Meanwhile, in order to gear up the party machinery for the coming general elections, the party State unit launched ‘Sankalp yatra’ from Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Devasthanams in Vemulawada temple town on Saturday.

Bandaru Dattatreya, senior leader Ch Vidyasagar Rao, State vice-president G. Ramakrishna Reddy, district president Prathap Ramakrishna, district leaders B. Jaganmohan Rao, S. Kumar, BJP Kisan Morcha State president P. Sugunakar Rao and others participated.

The yatra passed through Sircilla, Yellareddypet, Gambhiraopet and Mustabad mandals on
Saturday evening.

It would be culminating on October 3 at Dharmaram mandal headquarters in Karimnagar district.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dattatreya once again reiterated that Telangana state would be a reality once the party attains power at the Centre.

Chiru for more surprise visits

HYDERABAD: Karimnagar Dist. Sircilla

Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi has planned a few more surprise visits, the kind he made on Saturday by driving down to Sircilla for a first-hand look at the problems faced by weavers.

Sources said without disclosing details that his visit could be either to a social welfare hostel, a residential school, hospital or to a village where farmers were facing problems getting fertilizer.

Mr. Chiranjeevi is said to be keen on ensuring that his visits do not send out a wrong message about his party’s views on Andhra Pradesh as being either ‘integrationist or separatist”.

It is likely that his next such surprise visit will be to a remote village in the Rayalaseema region, followed by another quick trip to some place in the coastal districts, most probably a flood-affected area. There has been some discussion on the subject of Mr. Chiranjeevi’s surprise visits in the party’s core committee meetings.

Creates flutter

However, Saturday’s visit to Sircilla created a flutter in party circles and it did not appear to have gone well with senior leaders who migrated to the PR from other parties. Unwilling to be quoted though, some leaders said the party presidents’ public appearance on Saturday was like giving a head start to PR aspirants from the Telangana region when it came to elections.
